First of all, don't panic! It's a common instinct to assume fresh or raw food is the cause of any diarrhoea, but that's often not the case — research shows commercially dried foods can carry their own risk of E.coli or Salmonella contamination. With careful storage and feeding, there's no reason to let this worry hold you back from a diet your pet can genuinely thrive on.
The majority of pets do great from day one on BOM BOM. At worst, some show a bit of wet coating or softness in their stool early on, which typically firms up as their gut adjusts.
If your pet is having liquid, formless stools several times a day, a few things worth checking:
Feeding an ‘exotic’/novel protein might trigger allergies and vomiting and/or diarrhoea. Please always ensure to select a familiar protein your pet has tried before!
Their broader diet — supplements, dairy, treats, other foods, possible allergens, fat levels. Keep things simple during transition and strip their dietary regime back to basic meals for the first 1-2 weeks (you can add back the other supplements/toppers gradually). We’re happy to help you review what’s needed and what isn’t!
Whether you've recently started mixing in kibble, freeze-dried food, treats, or canned food — fresh food holds more moisture and needs a longer gut transit time to be absorbed, while drier processed foods move through faster. Introduced together too quickly, this mismatch can lead to looser stools for some pets. (Our mixed feeding guide covers how to introduce this gradually so the gut has time to adjust.)

Persistent diarrhoea is rarely caused by food-related pathogens. If a pet eats something that's gone off, the bacteria responsible is usually cleared within a few days. If your pet has ongoing, chronic diarrhoea — think uncontrollable, shapeless "poo puddles" more than 3 times a day over several days — it's more likely they've picked up a bug or parasite somewhere on a walk (sniffing, licking, or getting into something they shouldn't have).
