The National Research Council (NRC) has established the standards for MR, RA, and SUL to guide pet nutrition and to ensure pets receive appropriate and safe levels of micronutrients. Since these standards are typically provided on a per 100g dry matter basis (commonly used for commercial dry food), fresh food feeding is usually based on wet matter or Edible Portion (EP) basis. When using 'per 100g Edible Portion' unit, BOM BOM has also factored in the amount of moisture content into every ingredient analysis.

The Minimum Requirement (MR) is the lowest amount of a nutrient necessary to prevent deficiencies in healthy pets. If a nutrient level falls below the Minimum Requirement (MR) set by the National Research Council (NRC), you may want to optimise your pet’s diet using the recommendations provided by BOM BOM IQ.

The Recommended Allowance (RA) indicates the optimal nutrient level required to support overall health, growth, and activity in pets. If a nutrient level is below the Recommended Allowance (RA) set by the NRC, you may consider optimising your pet’s diet using the recommendations suggested by BOM BOM IQ.

The Safe Upper Limit (SUL) is the maximum amount of a nutrient that can be safely consumed without causing toxicity or adverse effects over time. Exceeding this threshold may result in health issues, such as toxicity or nutrient imbalances. If a nutrient level exceeds the Safe Upper Limit (SUL) set by the NRC, you may wish to optimise your pet’s diet using the recommendations suggested by BOM BOM IQ or contact the Nutrition Team for further interpretation of the data.
